Boating is Great For Health

By Marilyn Zink

When you love boating, you don't always think about how it's great for health too.

There's something about being on the water that breaks us free from the pressures and concerns of everyday life.

It's physical and obvious that we sever our connection with our everyday concerns as soon as we leave shore. You experience these benefits of boating whether you love motoring, sailing, rowing or paddling a kayak.

When I need to get away from the pressures of life, the clutter and all the noise, there is no better way to stay healthy than kayaking. Why do I say that?

I read about a study recently that showed going for a walk in a park or just getting out in nature is a better way to calm the nervous system than going for a walk on a city street. For us boaters, it's getting on the water.

A group I led recently on a kayaking trip thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We got to see some wildlife - eagles, seals, starfish and a moon snail. We explored several islands, ate our lunch on one and then heading back to one last island that had intrigued us earlier.

We pulled our kayaks up onto a perfect, peaceful little beach. The birds were twittering happily in the forest nearby, the sun warmed out bodies, the water lapped gently at the edge of the beach, and it was just so peaceful and calming I didn't want to leave.

"It doesn't get much better than this," commented one of our group. We all agreed whole-heartedly. I have been kayaking for more than 15 years in the waters of the Pacific ocean near our home and I never get tired of it. Being at one with the ocean, coasting on gentle swells, is like being rocked by the hand of God.

I come home with such a sense of peace and happiness. I believe that being in nature nurtures us with a sense of peace that we can't get anywhere else. You are rejuvenated and ready again to tackle the demands that life gives you. Even if you can't go kayaking (but I highly recommend you try it), get out in nature at least once a week, more if you can.

Combine boating trips with exploring a little island, if possible. For a natural solution from nature, there's no better choice than spending time on the water.

Special Features and Advantages of Waterproof Speakers

By Victor Epand

The term waterproof means something that will work in spite of any amount of water thrown on it, even amidst temporary sinking. This quality depends on the time, and on the depth of water.

Waterproof marine audio components are invaluable for boaters who are expected to stay around lots of water for a longer period of time. Actually a waterproof speaker is also popularly known as a marine speaker that is an invincible part of stereo sound in a wet environment.

Broadly, waterproof speakers can be divided into four main categories: dual cone speakers, coaxial speakers, component speakers, and sub-woofers. Dual cone speakers are those that have only one driver or sound output source, but use two different cones that come in large and small sizes. The larger cone is meant for mid-range and low frequencies while the smaller is for high frequencies. This kind of speakers work fairly well but lack the capacity for a broad spectrum of sound frequencies. The buyers often consider these because they are cheap.

Coaxial speakers are also known as 2 way or 3 way speakers. They use multiple drivers to handle different frequencies. The term coaxial means that one speaker is wrapped around with another speaker. The tweeter that handles the high frequency is situated in the middle of the speaker and surrounded by a woofer that handles mid range and low frequencies. The coaxial speaker delivers better performance than a dual cone speaker, but sometimes the components are not necessarily as good as that of a component speaker.

The third type of waterproof speaker is component speaker that is actually more than one speaker. The configuration of this speaker is set up in such a way that the higher and the lower frequencies are each handled by completely separate speakers. Through crossover the frequencies are divided electronically so that each speaker is required to produce its own quota of frequencies. So, this definitely helps in the best sound production.

The fourth type is the sub-woofer that is designed only to set the bass frequencies. Actually sub-woofers are meant for heavy thunder like sounds, but the use depends on the opinion of the user because a good quality coaxial or component speaker can produce the same sound effect as the sub-woofer does.

Now while choosing waterproof speakers certain points should be kept in mind. Considering a cutout size is an important point, especially if existing speakers are being replaced with the new one. This will help the buyer to cut short in search because the person knows what to buy.

If the new speakers are to be installed the measurement of the area is very important so as to get an idea about where we can place them. Since larger speakers have the tendency to deliver better sound performance, we must try to find the largest space possible. The depth of the space behind the speaker should also be ensured so that the heat that is generated will be cooled down. Thus, the cables will be saved from melting.

Considering speaker quality is another important thing to be kept in mind. The quality of a speaker depends upon the frequency range of sound that it is able to reproduce. One example would clear this point. For instance, take the difference between a telephone speaker and a stereo speaker. The telephone speakers produce mid range frequencies that are all right for human voice but for realistic high quality sound we need much more bass and treble.

Installing the Best Looking and Sounding Marine Audio System

By Tl Kleban

Anyone that knows their way around cars and boats can go to an electronics store, buy a stereo and some speakers and install them up on a boat, right? Making that install last is a whole other question. Finding the right stereo system for the harsh environment of a boat is no easy task.

Now you need to combine that with getting a pair of indestructible but nice-sounding speakers, flush-mounting it in a protected yet accessible spot, running the correct wire to power, breakers and radio along with matching it to a good antenna. I hope you're prepared for a job that will require all of your patience and skill.

Probably the single, most important element of a marine audio system is its resistance to water damage for obvious reasons. Boats live on water so you really cannot expect to avoid some exposure to water in that environment. It also offers other dangers to an audio system such as humidity, wind, salt, corrosion, chlorine, sun, and so on.

For a quality marine system install, it is the design of the system which is so critical for the components and installation. When designing a balanced sound system, look at a few requirements such as the source, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, installation more carefully.

Here are a few simple steps to help you with your install:

Look over your boat and find areas where audio products can be safely placed so that they do not get wet. Most people put their amplifiers engine compartments in the rear of the boat or sometimes under the dashboard. Put the subwoofers in the compartment under the seats. You'll have your new stereo unit replace the old, original one. If you have any room in the side panels of the boat or under the dash, then put any and all of your mid-range and mid-bass speakers and tweeters in there.

Draw a schematic of the system layout. Think about where you will be putting all of the audio components and where you will route the wires.

Make sure you buy audio speakers made with a polypropylene cone. It a cone made from a rigid material which is known for resisting moisture. It's best to use two 10-inch subwoofers designed for infinite baffle mounting. Another available option is to include four speaker separates such as four 6- by 9-inch two-way speakers or four 6 1/2-inch two-way speakers. Two-way speakers are great because they include a midrange or mid-bass speaker and a tweeter and the more separates your system has, the louder it will be.

Find yourself a good four-channel amplifier. Look for one specifically made for the marine environment. It will have specially treated circuit board enabling it to last longer around water and moisture. Companies like Rockford, Eclipse and Clarion make some nice models. Choose one with a built-in electronic crossover and runs stable with a 2 ohm load because it will be running very hot.

Select a stereo head unit that can be controlled by an infrared remote control allowing you to keep the unit safely stored in a dry place, covered in plastic and still handy. Remember that for the remote to work properly it still needs to be in a line of sight to the unit. So part of it still needs to be exposed. It is also a good idea to have everything hooked up to a second battery, as well. This battery is used to power the audio system and upgrade the boat's alternator.

Marine Audio - Instant Lake Party

By Michael Kilby

Now it is easier than ever to equip you boat with the latest in marine audio and video. These products can enhance a day on the water and turn an ordinary outing into a lake party. But there is one thing to keep in mind. Not everyone shares your taste in music, so please keep the volume reasonable around other boaters; especially fisherman. It comes down to basic courtesy, I love to fish and I love loud music; just not at the same time.

With this little cautionary statement out of the way, lets look at how we can make our boat bound for sound. The basic components needed to make your boat rock (or country, or jazz) are a stereo receiver and a set of speakers. Wiring a boat for marine audio is very much similar to the stereo system in your car. The main difference being marine stereo receivers and other components are made with being on the water in mind. These products are manufactured to be water and corrosive resistant to stay intact for years of enjoyment. Beyond the basic receiver, speaker pair, many boaters like to pump up the volume with a combination of amplifiers and subwoofers. Nothing is better than pulling up next to your friends boat and having an instant tailgate party. There are many choices for your sound source such as CDs, XM Radio, and of course your regular local stations.

While you enjoy fishing, sunbathing or entertaining friends; the children can find relief from the hot sun while watching a DVD. Marine video has now become an important addition to your cruiser just as in your house (and probably SUV).

In my opinion boating is for enjoying the outdoors so I keep any video watching to a minimum. But it does provide a nice change of pace at night in the cabin. To many their boat, like their homes and cars, are an extension of themselves. So keep the excitement going from the land to the water.

Marine Stereos

By Peter Gitundu

If you work in the marines and you have no way of managing your boredom, or if you feel that a marine environment makes you feel segregated, then relax because there are marine stereos that are water proof, good quality and come in different sizes and specifications to serve all your sound purposes.

There are some considerations that one has to make when purchasing marine equipment because of weather conditions, all marine electronics are coated to prevent rusting and ultra violet rays, marine stereos are not exceptional. While purchasing them you should consider the size and dimensions, power output, and sound frequency in case you want to install in a ferry. If you want to replace, purchase one with a standard Dash Installation size, the DI dimensions varies depending with the manufacturers. The standard one should be two inches high and seven inches wide.

Marine stereos require an amplifier which has a high power output and good quality, it should have at least four separate channels to power the speakers, the speakers should be placed strategically between the two sets of stereo. This ensure that there is enough power. Other than cutting hole through the stereo, enclosure it with mount to safeguard it from other elements.

To harness exemplary sounds and volume, you can add an extra amplifier, speakers should be water proof and good quality. Weather proof baskets can be used to improve protection. The best brands are, JBL, Jensen, Boss and Poly-planer. Box mount, flush mount, and waterproof units are designed for large vessels; this is because they produce high quality sounds and boost the travelers motivation. choosing this stereo will end your boredom.

Let Marine Audio Help You Get the Sound You Want From Your Boat

By Matt Gallo

Today mobile electronics aren't just for vehicles with wheels-you may instinctively think of car stereos when you hear about mobile audio shops, but many also offer marine audio to bring great sound to your boat! Whether you prefer surf the waves on a wakeboard or just soak up the sun on the deck, a marine audio system can help you enjoy great music while you're on the water.

Like aftermarket car audio systems, marine audio is usually made up of component electronics for great sound performance. Including speakers, subwoofers, decks, and amps, your boat's sound system can be customized for optimal performance that suits your listening style. One important thing to keep in mind is who will be listening to your music-especially if you tow wakeboarders, water-skiers, and tubers, you'll want rear-directed speakers so they can enjoy the tunes, too!

Marine video is even an option with today's exciting technology: whether you're interested in a GPS navigation system or a video monitor and DVD player to watch movies, your local mobile electronics shop can bring marine video to your boat.

Marine electronics have a number of challenges different from car audio, namely the presence of water! The most important thing about your boat stereo system is that it is correctly installed. While some components, such as marine speakers, can tolerate quite a bit of moisture, other parts of the system have to be kept dry. A professional marine audio installer can help design a system that ensures waterproof locations for vulnerable components as well as offering superior sound. They'll integrate your speakers and the rest of the sound system into your boat for attractive appearance as well as ideal performance.

Be on the lookout for car electronics shops that claim to install marine audio without the experience to back up that statement. You really don't want amateurs working on your system, and it really is a different application. Just because an installer can put a sound system in a car or truck doesn't mean they're qualified to install your marine audio system.

For correct, waterproof installation and the best performance, use a shop with experienced, trained marine audio technicians and marine grade components. You'll get aesthetically beautiful, functional results and a sound system you'll be able to enjoy for years!

Boat Stereo - Selection Guidelines

By David Faulkner

it is but natural to think about buying a boat stereo that will round up your boat accessories. But before getting one, there are some things worth considering.

For one, a boat stereo should be both water- and rust-resistant on the outside as well as the inside. Do not purchase just any boat stereo. If possible, you should take some effort to find out how it was assembled and if the parts are waterproof and can withstand humidity.

Consider different extreme scenarios, such as the boat stereo falling on the water or it being exposed to the sweltering heat of the sun. Will your boat stereo still function under the said conditions? Check and double check if the boat stereo is really water-resistant and not just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill music box.

Another point of consideration is the cost. A boat stereo may be a hundred dollars more expensive than an ordinary stereo, but you have to be convinced that you are getting your money’s worth for it.

You yourself should somehow be knowledgeable about boat stereos as to their best features, whether their manufacture passes strict product standards, and whether they require easy installation and maintenance requirements. Being equipped with this information, you would be able to tell if you have the best deal for your money in acquiring a boat stereo.

Some people ignore this, but a boat stereo warranty is just as important as the unit itself. You should pay particular attention on the warranty period and the parts included under such. You may notice that a warranty may differ from one manufacturer to the next. No two warranties are alike. Therefore, you really have to understand the warranty aspect of a boat stereo should you decide to purchase one.

Having more than enough financial resources can get you the best boat stereo you can ever imagine. But then again, careful scrutiny must be undertaken to ensure that the boat stereo you acquire will provide you with many useful years of service.

Marine Stereo System - The Waterproof Entertainment System

By Arran James

Is the marine stereo system up to the challenges of a marine environment and capable of holding up to the humid conditions. Are water-resistant materials in place, such as sealed switches or coated circuit board to keep out the water.

The salt air, humidity, and moisture can soon takes its toll on the electronic equipment onboard a boat. So, its important to locate a stereo system that's actually been developed for a wet environment. Coatings to the internal circuit board, rubber keypad controls, UV-resistant, shock resistant, and splash proof faceplates are just some of the extras to resist the conditions at sea.
Boss Audio, JBL, Jensen, Sony, and Clarion are a few of the manufacturers that offer high-quality marine stereos that not only sound great, but also able to endure the hardships of life at sea. The latest models of boat stereos come with a host of features, such as AM/FM/CD changers, full iPod or MP3 connections and SIRIUS satellite radio ready systems. Add-ons to go with the systems include marine speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers.

Also some manufacturers have been known to put automotive equipment inside a box that's been marked with marine. That classification of 'marine' is often enough to add a few hundred dollars to the price tag. This makes it especially important to locate a stereo that's actually suited to the task at hand and is actually worth the extra expense.

It's crucial that a marine stereo system is truly able to address the tough conditions of being out on the water and able to cope with the vibrations of a choppy boat ride.
